Tree Preservation Orders
Tree Preservation Orders
Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) give councils the power to protect trees.
TPOs prohibit the cutting down, uprooting, topping, lopping, wilful damage or wilful destruction of trees without the council's consent.
Breaching a TPO can result in a maximum fine of £20,000.
Always check with the council before carrying out work on a tree.
- Print out an application form to carry out work on a tree protected by a TPO (planning portal)
- View planning applications for work on protected trees
